About

Vision Statement:

          Discover Green- Young Environmental Leaders, Inc., a youth-led environmental movement, is dedicated to raising

          community awareness of environmental and global issues by improving the quality of life in our community and working

          together to improve our environment; empowering students to take action through environmentally-focused projects; and

          taking action to protect our environment for current and future generations.

How was it started?

          In 2008, five friends came up with a birthday party designed for more than just getting gifts.  Matthew Evans and Joanna

          Casey hosted the first "Teen Green Party with a Purpose" in October 2008.  It turned out to be far more fun than they’d

          imagined and learned that other teens wanted to have a party with service projects, too.  Matthew Evans started Discover

          Green to support more projects and parties.  The first Eco-Inspiration Coaches for the organization are Alec Bainter, Hallie

          and Joanna Casey, Stephen and Sarah Young and Grayce and Daeland Angle.

How do we collaborate?

          We start with the youth driven desire to work with a particular partner. These collaborations range from just showing up and

          doing the work to planning and executing the event from ideation.

Projects:

          We offer environmental themed events and many more projects including tree plantings (Urban Forestry and

          NeighborWoods); creek stewardship (trash removal, invasive species removal and planting saplings); storm drain marking;

          native garden planting; trash pick up; e-waste drives; recycling presentations and partnering in a variety of green community

          festivals.
